Tom talks about "Waiting for Forever" and "On The Road"

Reel Movie News had a chance to catch up with the very talented Tom Sturridge.  Sturridge appears in the indie-film Waiting For Forever as Will, alongside Rachel Bilson.
He plays Bilson's childhood friend who doesn't seem to be able to grow up.  Will has been in love with Emma (Bilson) since childhood and is willing to wait forever for the love of his life.
The British actor talked to us about perfecting his American accent and what he looks for when choosing roles.
Waiting For Forever hits theaters in limited release on Friday February 4, 2011.

What encouraged you to take on the role in Waiting For Forever?
I think it was partly getting to work with the people involved. I’d just seen The Visitor, so working with Richard Jenkins was incredibly exciting. Scott Mechlowicz did a movie called Mean Creek which was one of my favorite films when I was younger. Working with Rachel [Bilson] was great. I thought it was interesting to do what is potentially a cliché classic boy/girl romantic film from the prospective from a complete weirdo.
What is your perception of Will?
My first thought is that he’s someone who had this traumic event in his childhood and didn’t evolve much from that point. I saw him as a child.
Your American accent is flawless, yet you're from England. How did you learn the American accent?
Just from watching American television. We’re kind of submerged in it. I’m more likely to hear an American accent than a Scottish accent. Be it Tony Soprano or whoever. Just a childhood of watching movies and Friends, basically. [laughs] I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but I’m very used to it being in my ear.
Have you ever had a love like Will loves Emma and would wait forever?
Yes, I’ve definitely had love. As for waiting for forever, there’s a famous Keats poem called “ode on a grecian urn”, which is essentially about two lovers, and the image is them about to kiss. The poem is about the moment before you kiss. The good thing about waiting for forever is that the desire is always there and never quite climaxed.
What was your favorite scene to film?
I liked the end, juggling the fire. It was relatively cool end. I got home and I was like “yeah I just got done juggling fire”. [laughs] I really liked working with Rachel. I liked the scene just between us, because it felt effortless.
How was it working with Rachel Bilson? Did you work on developing chemistry with her?
It was never something either of us worried about. I think if you have to work on developing chemistry you’re already fucked. [laughs]. If you’ve got to go on chemistry development days, you’re in trouble.
Talk about the chemistry of the cast.
It all stems with James [Keach] and his casting, and him putting these people together. In that way the chemistry is developed. It’s inside the head of the man who chooses who’s in the film.
Talk about filming On the Road. [Alongside Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, and Garrett Hedlund]
We filmed in Montreal, New Orleans, San Francisco, New Mexico, Argentina. It was six month, and it was incredible. It was the most extraordinary working experience I’ve ever had. The combination of being a part of the people that get to bring that book to life and working with Walter Salles, who I think is one of the greatest directors living today, and working with the best group of young actors around at the moment. It was such an astonishing experience.
How did you feel when you were cast?
It was incredible, I felt incredible. It was the best feeling. It was the perfect casting moment. All of us auditioned for it almost 3 years ago, and about 4 months before we started filming, Walter summoned me to New York to have lunch with him and we had this long, incredible lunch over hours talking about the book and thoughts and ideas. At the end of the lunch he told me ‘I want you to come on this journey with me’.
What types of roles will you be looking for?
That’s not how my mind works. I’m more interesting in who I’ll be working with. You can find something fascinating in any character, but what’s hard is to find people who you admire to realize that. As for a collaboration with someone, I’d know it if I saw it.
Fans want to know: what is the story behind the duck sweater?
I like it. I found it somewhere. It’s a bit cold so I wear a sweater sometimes.

Alice Braga about Kristen " She is adorable, and a phenomenal actress"

“Kristen is adorable, and a phenomenal actress and I am a big fan of hers! I don’t have a scene with her [in the movie]. All my scenes are with Sam Riley.” And although Alice, 27, didn’t film opposite Kristen, 20, she says, “I had the chance to meet her and it was amazing! She is a phenomenal actress, she is so young and has such an amazing career!”

Alice is impressed by Kristen’s career path so far. “I think the choices she makes in independent films working with upcoming directors helps her a lot. And then she moves to something as big as Twilight, it is really important to take those chances and do that, she loves cinema and she just does it!”

Promotional Poster Cosmopolis from Cannes Festival + Variety's article on Rob and his new project

Robert Pattinson has signed on to “Cosmopolis,” which David Cronenberg penned and will direct.

Based on the Don DeLillo tome of the same name, story follows a multimillionaire played by Pattinson who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day.

Cronenberg will also produce along with Paulo Branco. Renee Tab will exec produce.

Pattinson is slowly trying to break away from his “Twilight” fan base and aiming for more adult-driven projects like this and the Francis Lawrence-directed “Water for Elephants,” which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz.

Cronenberg just finished filming “A Dangerous Method” with Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender and had a slew of projects on his plate to pursue next, including an “Eastern Promises” sequel he has been trying to get off the ground for some time now.

With Pattinson attached, “Cosmopolis” will more than likely be the next film Cronenberg shoots even though a start date has not been set yet

New Pic of Rob and Kris Kissing at IOW

And here we have some details about what happened ,although the pic says everything

lyn millard from TwiFans "I have never made any comments here before but felt I should as I was there. The Lobster Pot is our local pub and we go there every New Years Eve, we saw Rob and Kristen last year and when they came into the pub they looked over and said hello as though they remembered us, (I doubt very much they did) but it made us feel kind of nice. Anyway, they are kissing, it didn't last long but my friend and I both sighed. Trouble is I think now the papz have got wind of their destination, I don't think they'll come back. Apparently the police were called at another place they visited because about 300 fans and dozens of photographers had the cafe surrounded. They are such nice people, no airs and graces at all and Kristen, despite all the bad press is so friendly. Rob said, see you all next year, before they left. i just hope they do."

Pictures of Rob and Kristen in IOW

New Years Eve (12/31/2010)

From the woman who met them:

Yep they’re over here alright. Got a picture with them both. He was lovely and very chilled…she was different. However I’m very happy that i got the opportunity to meet them both. Some people say she’s rude but i mean it was New Years eve so it was pretty intrusive of me to ask for a photo. I just didn’t want to let a moment like that go if you know what i mean. I’m never going to see them again so asked and luckily they agreed to have a photo with me.

They were outside on the sea front with a group of friends. It was nice coz everyone was really chilled. Me and my friend spotted him. He was just chatting to his friends and Kristen went somewhere and when she came back she went to him and they were both chatting with a guy whilst having some drinks. They sparked up so i waited until afterwards to i could ask them for a photo. My friend went up and spoke to Kristen who seemed shocked. Probably because they seem to have grabbed no attention what-so-ever so a couple of overly grinning fans wasn’t the first wish she had for New Year :S I took the photo and then asked if i could have one. Wished them a Happy New Year then went away very quickly, didn’t want to annoy them any more than i had already.

Looking back i think i was wrong to be so offended. After all she gave me the pic i wanted which was good of her. I’m honestly way too sensitive. She honestly looked worried when we approached. I suppose they had nobody there to protect them (i’m not sure how they live their lives body guard wise :S)

I’m actually not that bigger Rob P fan. I used to be when the films first came out but haven’t kept up to date.

All i know is that i saw this page and after meeting them both i wanted to confirm that they were on the Isle of Wight. I didn’t realise i would get so many facebooks adds etc So i’m just trying to show the picture and carry on.
